Diet and Eye Sight

March 19th, 2009

Did you know that looking at the food you eat has a direct effect on the health and well being of your eyesight?  Like any other organ of the body, the eyes are greatly affected by the type of food put into the body.  Eating healthily then is an important factor to vision health and must be taken into consideration.

Along with the proper nutrition to give the eyes the vitamins and minerals to support the functions and stresses the eyes go through on a daily basis, rest and relaxation is also very important.  The eyes need time to rest and recuperate, especially when prolonged time is spent on the computer or in doing tasks where the eyes are not given the best conditions to function.  A few minutes spent a couple of times a day just looking at the distance and enjoying whatever scenery is available, or closing the eyes a moment to relax the muscles and lubricate the eyes will do a lot of good for vision health.

What people do not realize is that taking care of the eyes and doing the necessary things to keep the eyes healthy is just as important as the rest of the body.  It is even funny that the healthiest people in the world seem to neglect the eyes!  Their only advantage is the fact that they eat right so their good nutrition helps the eyes somewhat.

What matters most, it seems, is the consciousness of the stresses that the eyes go through on a daily basis, and the recognition of the need for proper care.  Without this consciousness, the eyes suffer and continuously degenerate and break down and life would be more difficult.

With a little effort, a lot of benefit can be gained from taking a few moments to focus on the eyes.  Just being conscious about it and doing the simple steps to keep the eyes and vision healthy will make such a difference in the well-being of the whole person—not only the eyes.
